Man, I love wakesurfing.  My name is Drew Danielo, four-time World Wakesurfing Champion and team rider for M&M Watersports and Centurion Boats.  From the first time I stepped on a board to my fourth World Wakesurfing title, every moment has been a rush.  The challenge, hanging with good friends, landing a new trick, the feel of the wave, there’s just nothing else like it.

Centurion has been there from the beginning and I ride behind one for a simple reason: wakesurfing is what they do, and it’s who they are.  Centurion offers features that

can’t be found anywhere else, and everything they do is done with the rider in mind.  Take the Sideswipe Exhaust, for example.  With a flip of a switch, I can change the exhaust from one side of the boat to the other so my friends and family can surf all day long without worrying about carbon monoxide or nasty fumes.

From the features inside them to the boats themselves, Centurion is wakesurfing.  Centurion’s Enzo is the first boat to have the SurfTech-V Hull which is the industries first hull shaped specifically with surfing in mind.  With this new design, they were able to capture the feel of an ocean wave closer than anything I had experienced before.  Until then, wakesurf waves just weren’t shaped right; they were too steep, very short and really didn’t have any power.  The SurfTech-V Hull changed that.  Suddenly, you could land bigspins and pull off 1080’s, where before that wasn’t even possible.

The SurfTech-V Hull addressed the major shortcomings wakesurf wakes had up to that point:  Power, shape, and length.  The wave’s power is what gives it push and keeps you going forward.  Size can impact power, but they aren’t

always connected.  When I rode on a wave made by the SurfTech-V Hull, I couldn’t believe the power it generated.  For the first time, I could totally focus on the trick I was doing because keeping the wave was so much easier.

The SurfTech-V Hull’s wave is also longer, way longer.  I have been out on boats before, where the wave was so short that it pushed me right into the back of the boat, and my board was just inches away from the back deck, which used to be the norm. With the SurfTech-V Hull I have had days out wakesurfing where we were almost 30

feet behind the boat without losing the push!  Having all that extra length really helps when you’re doing bigger tricks

and has been great when I am teaching other people how to surf because they don’t lose the wave as often.

Of course, the most noticeable thing about a wakesurf wave is the size, and the SurfTech-V Hull’s wave is big, really big, but more importantly, it has the right kind of shape.  If you have a gigantic wave that is like a big wall or is totally washed out, then it is not good, no matter how big it is.  If you ever look at an ocean wave, you will see that it has a smooth face and a clean curl at the top.  That shape is what keeps you in control and

gives it a large amount of power.  Any surfer will tell you that if a wave doesn’t have the right shape, then you should

pass and wait for one that does, and the same is true in wakesurfing.

You would think that after designing something like the SurfTech-V Hull that they would be happy and just take a break for a while; well, not those guys.  Right after they rolled out the SurfTech-V Hull, they came out with something just as big, if not bigger.  It’s called the SwitchBlade, and if you haven’t ever used one, then you are seriously missing out.  With just the press of a button, the SwitchBlade will change the size and shape of the wake, making it way easier to switch between sports like wakesurfing, wakeboarding, and wakeskating.  For wakeboarding, the SwitchBlade will kick up a nice lippy wake and, while surfing, the blade scoops the water into a perfect curl. What more could you ask for?

Centurion’s design team understands wakesurfing, because they are surfers, and that passion shines through in their latest innovation: The Surf Right System.  Though I typically surf on the port side of the boat, I like to switch it up every once in a while.  Unfortunately, the wave is never as good on the other side, and all my friends who surf right-foot forward have to deal with it.  That’s the reason Centurion’s design team came out with the Surf Right System.  You see, the way a prop rotates will have a huge impact on the shape of a wave.  If you have a boat with a left-hand prop rotation, then the wave will be better on the port side.  Until now, you didn’t have the choice of what drive system you got, but now Centurion’s changed that.  They offer the option of having a boat with a right-hand prop rotation, and those goofy foot friends of mine couldn’t be happier.

You know, I used to skimboard and surf before I ever did much behind a boat.  The concept of the never-ending wave used to be just a myth, something that only existed in my dreams.  Little did I know that it could actually be a reality.  There really is nothing else like wakesurfing.  This year I saw a 6-year-old boy and a 71-year-old woman ride in their first wakesurfing tournament.  I am continually amazed by what is happening in this sport.  It’s like a fever, and everyone is catching it.  I can’t even imagine what it will be like a few years from now.  But I do know one thing, I’ll be there, M&M Watersports will be there, and Centurion will be there – because this is what we do, and, more importantly, it’s who we are.
